The 2019 NHL Draft was filled with talent. The top 5 was pretty much cemented by analysts and hockey writers all over. For years people have raved about how deep the Flyers prospect pipeline is and we are finally at the point where these players are being given a shot to prove themselves. Ron Hextall definitely left the Flyers with cupboards full before being fired, but his plan needed to be accelerated. Enter Chuck Fletcher.
Remember when Shayne Gostisbehere first entered the league? It feels like a long time ago, but here is a refresher.
The Fyers were 5-8-3, they averaged less than 2 goals per game and didn’t appear to have a clear identity. When Gostisbehere came onto the scene, he immediately made an impact, getting an assist in his first game and a goal in the next.
He continued his dominance the rest of the year, breaking an NHL record for longest point streak by a rookie defenseman and leading the charge to the playoffs. The Flyers were 36-19-11 with “Ghost” in the lineup.
